Pod

NHDS have developed several versions of Power Outage Detector or POD. These detectors monitor single or three phase power supply and have a built in telephone line PSTN modem detecting and reporting all electricity supply interruptions. PODs have been developed for use by the UK Power Companies to install in customers' premises to report all interruptions to normal supply conditions, including transient interruptions and short duration outages.

There are many spin-off benefits with this product, including monitoring supply to key customers dependent on electricity for medical care and essential processes, outage, PODs report restorations to supply and also successful autoreclosure operations (transient interruptions). The "Event Profile" includes the number and duration of each of the autoreclose shots.NHDS POD's

This information is reported to a central site via the telephone network using the built in modem. The POD can share an existing telephone connection thereby keeping communication costs to that of alarm calls only. The most widely used application of POD's is to detect the loss of supply to groups of customers when a non-telecontrolled protection device (such as pole top recloser or sectionaliser) locks out.

Two PODs downstream of this device report loss of supply immediately and, because of their locations on the network, confirm the recloser as the cause of the power outage. PODs report restorations to supply and also successful autoreclosure operations (transient interruptions). The "Event Profile" includes the number and duration of each of the autoreclose shots.
